Wavelength-division and spatial multiplexing using tandem interferometers for Bragg grating sensor networks.

چکیده
We present a new method for the interrogation of large arrays of Bragg grating sensors. Eight gratings operating between the wavelengths of 1533 and 1555 nm have been demultiplexed. An unbalanced Mach– Zehnder interferometer illuminated by a single low-coherence source provides a high-phase-resolution output for each sensor, the outputs of which are sequentially selected in wavelength by a tunable Fabry–Perot interferometer. The minimum detectable strain measured was 90 n ́y p Hz at 7 Hz for a wavelength of 1535 nm. 1995 Optical Society of America

Time-division-multiplexed interrogation of fibre Bragg grating sensors using laser diodes
An intensity-based technique for the interrogation of fibre Bragg grating sensors is described. The technique utilizes two longitudinal modes of a single, pulsed laser diode as a dual-wavelength source for grating illumination. Time-division-multiplexed addressing of sensor arrays in serial and tree topologies is also demonstrated.

A novel configuration of an interferometric device, based on a full-cycle full (100%) coupler structure, loaded with a Bragg grating symmetrically placed into the uniform coupler waist, is proposed for use as an optical add–drop multiplexer (OADM) with simultaneously optimized add and drop actions. A general method for designing a suitable Bragg grating for optimal inscription in to the uniform...
متن کاملTunable laser based carbon composite strain sensing system using wavelength division multiplexed fiber Bragg grating sensors [5758-2]
A carbon composite strain sensing system using an embedded array of polymide-coated fiber Bragg grating sensors, which are interrogated by a tunable laser, is described. The system is controlled from a personal computer using a customized program. The system was tested using a composite panel consisting of 28 plies of carbon fiber. Consistent strain measurements were achieved using a laser scan...

Fiber Bragg grating (FBG) sensors based on the wavelength division multiplexing technology are ideally suited for structural health monitoring. In many applications, it is desirable to form several arrays of optical fiber sensors to monitor the response of structures. In the present study, we constructed an improved FBG sensor system using a wavelength-swept fiber laser which exhibits high outp...
متن کاملStrain Measurement of Composite Laminates Using Fiber Bragg Grating Sensors
Fiber Bragg grating(FBG) sensors, one of the fiber optic sensors(FOS), based on the wavelength division multiplexing(WDM) technology are ideally suitable for structural health monitoring of composite materials and structures. Proper monitoring of measurands in FBG sensor systems requires accurate measurement of the Bragg center wavelength, and the ability to track rapid shifts of the wavelength...
